Who am I?
Tom Chaplin is a London-based photographer, retoucher and photography educator. After graduating with a First Class Degree in Photography from London South Bank University in 2018, he developed a commercial practice alongside teaching photography in higher education and delivering workshops internationally.
His clients include Pepsi, Fassi, Macmillan Cancer Support, Peabody and South Bank Collective, and his work spans portraiture, commercial photography and documentary projects, requiring a flexible and technically precise approach.
Alongside his commercial work, Tom teaches photography and moving image within higher education and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning. He has delivered workshops and courses around the world, and specialises in photographic workflow, including printmaking, film scanning and high-end post-production.
His academic work includes research into the impact of Generative AI on contemporary art practice, exploring how new technologies are reshaping ideas of authorship, creativity and visual culture.
Tom’s teaching background strongly informs his commercial practice, particularly in actor headshots, where he specialises in creating a relaxed, collaborative environment that produces natural, confident portraits.
